Note from our 2009 “Dream Dress, Dream Big” Promtourage Contest Winner

Friday, September 18th, 2009

I just wanted to write this to say thank you so much for the scholarship. I really did not realize how much that will help. I knew it would but after buying books, clothes, things for the dorm, I realize if I didn’t have that scholarship it would be very hard on my parents. The whole scholarship went toward my dorm and meal plan. It basically saved my parents A LOT of money. Plus because of the $5000 I can just focus on school and getting good grades instead of having to balance school and work. That’ll be a GREAT advantage because I want to go to the nursing program at University of Washington and
I need an almost perfect GPA to get in. Anyways I’m leaving for school tomorrow so I still have a ton of packing to do but I just wanted to take the time and write this.

Thanks again to everyone at Davis Bridal,
Lalida

Our “Dress Your Wedding” Contest Winner Goes Shopping!

Wednesday, August 12th, 2009

June 25, 2009
Today was the big day. I had been looking forward to this day for over a month and so had my bridal party. My nieces who are junior bridesmaids are teenage girls who just love shopping for pretty dresses! I was surprised by how busy it was on a Thursday evening but the ladies were very nice and did their best to take care of us considering how packed the store was. To start, I shared with my consultant some dresses I had bookmarked in the most recent David’s Bridal Catalogue. It was very exciting to try on the first dress she pulled for me; however, it was definitely not the one. I didn’t like the material which instantly narrowed down the number and types of dresses that I tried on next. I tried on multiple styles until I found “the one.” It’s true that when you find “the one” you just know. You may have second thoughts about it later, and I did, but once you put on the dress again and it feels right, then you know you can say “yes!” to the dress.

Once I had pranced around in “my” dress for a while it was my time for my bridesmaids to pick out their dresses. I have to say although I enjoyed looking for the perfect dress for myself, it was so much more exhilarating helping my bridesmaids pick out their dresses. We were all over the store pulling different colors and styles from the racks and it was so much fun! I wouldn’t be surprised if they tried on every style there was available. I wanted my bridesmaids to all wear different styles but similar colors so it was funny to see them pick out dresses and then trade with each other to find which style would look best on them. We decided to go with canary since my wedding is going to be in the summer and it’s just a beautiful shade of yellow. After everyone had chosen their dresses, I put on my gown again to stand with my bridesmaids to be sure we liked the “look” then quickly moved on to shoes. Again, my bridesmaids were “allowed” to pick out any style of shoe they wanted as long as it was ivory. We thought white might be a little bright with the canary but that ivory would go nicely. I think that my bridesmaids had as much as fun as I did during this process because “they” picked out what they’re going to wear on my special day. They are going to be my support system during the wedding planning and I just wanted to be sure that they were comfortable and excited to get dolled up for the “big day.” My niece claims that she will be wearing her ensemble for her prom the year after the wedding! Thank you David’s Bridal for providing this memorable experience for us! I can’t wait to take my mom to pick out her dress and model my wedding gown for her.

Meet the winner of our Dress Your Wedding Contest!

Tuesday, August 11th, 2009

Earlier this year, David’s Bridal ran a “Dress Your Wedding” campaign with a grand prize of a $5,000 gift certificate. To enter the contest, brides-to-be used the virtual tool on davidsbridal.com to create their wedding and share it virally. Entrants were also asked to write a short story about how they planned to add flair and personal style to their special day.

Second place winner, Weslee Cheung from Vancouver, WA submitted a very creative story and corresponding Dress Your Wedding picture. She and her fiancé originally planned a destination wedding in Hawaii, but decided instead to plan “A Destination Wedding At Home” with an elegant beach theme. Check out Weslee’s winning entry below, along with her first blog post about her experience at David’s Bridal. Please check back frequently for updates.

It was very exciting for my fiancé Vicheka and I to visit David’s Bridal in Beaverton, Oregon today. When we walked in the store we were greeted immediately and felt very welcomed. This was our first time in any bridal store and we were definitely excited. Especially because we felt honored to be asked to attend a small ceremony where we were presented a $2,500 gift certificate, our reward that we won as a runner-up in the David’s Bridal “Dress Your Wedding” contest. The staff in the store was excited for us as well which made us eager to stay a while and browse around the store. We fell in love with many displays that were color coordinated and immediately started planning our bridal party’s attire. I thought it was so cute when my fiancé started to give his opinions about some of the dresses and colors. You don’t often find grooms in bridal stores with their brides picking out attire for their attendees. For me, our wedding all of a sudden became very real. Our wedding will be taking place in our home state California and I look forward to my appointment in Modesto where my entire bridal party and I plan to do our dress shopping. Planning a wedding over a distance will be tough but the staff was very supportive and provided helpful hints. The plan is for me to try on dresses with my bridal party in California and once we have everything all picked out, to purchase them in Oregon (YAY NO TAX!). Once the dresses are ordered I can have them sent to California so I don’t have to worry about traveling with any garments. David’s Bridal genuinely wanted to make my shopping experience as stress free as possible. I can’t wait to go try on dresses! California here I come!

We celebrated the unveiling of our first-ever New York City store on Thursday, March 5, 2009.  We adorned the facade of the building with a gigantic veil and tiara that was lifted to reveal the new digs. On hand to join us was New York City Commissioner of Small Business Services Robert W. Walsh.  Check out the location of the new store here.  Here is a video of the big day:
